Are You the CEO of Your Life?

Updated: Oct 28, 2025

It might be time to fire your inner board of directors

Have you ever thought of your life as a business, one that produces outcomes based on your beliefs, habits, and choices? Every decision is like signing off on a new project, every relationship an investment, and every thought a meeting memo shaping the future. In every company, there’s a board of directors, a team that influences the vision and direction of the enterprise. In your life, that “board” is made up of your inner voices and beliefs. Some are wise and empowering… and some are definitely not. Take a look at your current team. Do you have any of these kind of board members?

  • Fear of Failure – always warning, “Don’t even try.”

  • Low Self-Worth – sighing, “Who do you think you are?”

  • Scarcity Thinking – muttering, “There’s never enough.”

  • Imposter Syndrome – whispering, “You’re not qualified.”

  • Poverty Mindset – insisting, “Money is for other people.”

  • Lack of Deservability – declaring, “You don’t deserve that.”

If you recognize some of these names, it’s time for a corporate restructuring. Because here’s the truth: you are the CEO of your life. And if your company is going to flourish, you need to take back your power from those unhelpful board members.

Are You the CEO of Your Life?

God is the founder - you’re the owner and CEO

Every great company begins with a Founder, someone who had the original vision and breathed life into the organization. In the divine design of things, God is the Founder of your life. You were created with purpose, passion, and potential. But like any founder, God expects the CEO - you - to lead wisely, grow courageously, and keep the company aligned with the original mission.

So gather your inner board, clear your throat, and say the words every toxic thought dreads:

“This company is changing direction — and you, Fear of Failure? You’re fired!”

Time to Hire a New Board of Directors

Now that you’ve cleared the room, it’s time to invite in some new leadership energy. Here’s what your new team might look like:

  • Positive Coach – Keeps you motivated and confident.

  • Creativity – Brings innovation and fresh perspective.

  • Hope – Believes in your long-term potential.

  • Inspiration – Keeps your spirit alive and joyful.

  • Abundance – Knows there’s always more than enough.

  • Wellness – Prioritizes health, balance, and alignment.

  • Wealth – Thinks expansively and strategically.

  • Empathy – Ensures decisions come from compassion.

  • Love – Leads with grace and kindness.

That’s a dream team any successful CEO would be proud of.

What kind of acquisitions would your company like to own?

Every thriving company makes acquisitions — strategic investments that expand its reach, strengthen its foundation, and bring new opportunities. As the CEO of your life, it’s worth asking: What kind of “acquisitions” would you like your life company to make? These “acquisitions” could be:

  • New skills – Learning communication, leadership, or mindfulness.

  • Healthy habits – Investing in daily exercise, nutritious food, or better sleep.

  • Positive relationships – Partnering with people who uplift and support you.

  • Experiences – Traveling, creating, exploring, and learning.

  • Values-based assets – Building integrity, generosity, and gratitude.

  • Financial growth – Expanding your capacity for wealth and stewardship.

Think of these acquisitions as your personal portfolio — the assets that make your life richer in every sense.

Action Step: Make a list of five “acquisitions” you want your company to pursue this year. Then, outline one small step you can take toward each one.

What’s the mission and vision statement of your company?

Every great business has a mission (why it exists) and a vision (what it’s striving to become). Your life deserves the same clarity.

Your Mission Statement answers:

  • Why do I exist?

  • What am I here to contribute?

  • What values drive my daily actions?

Sample Mission Statements:

  • “My mission is to live with integrity, compassion, and curiosity — inspiring others to grow while staying true to my authentic self.”

  • “To help others find healing and clarity while creating a life of balance, wellness, and abundance.”

We're on a mission from God

Your Vision Statement answers:

  • What does success look like for me?

  • How do I see my future self and life?

  • What do I want my company (life) to be known for?

Sample Vision Statements:

  • “To live a peaceful, prosperous, and purpose-driven life that uplifts others.”

  • “To create a world where healing, self-love, and spiritual connection lead the way.”

Action Step:Write your mission and vision statements. Keep them visible — on your mirror, your phone wallpaper, or your journal. Review them quarterly, like a true CEO reviewing company goals.

Don’t forget your company values & culture

In corporate terms, values shape how business gets done. In life terms, your personal values guide your energy, relationships, and decisions.

Examples of strong company values might include:

  • Integrity

  • Kindness

  • Accountability

  • Balance

  • Courage

  • Creativity

  • Service

Action Step: Choose 3–5 core values that feel like the pillars of your company. Let these guide every decision and interaction.

How’s Your Annual Report Looking?

Every CEO reviews performance, not to judge, but to learn. Once a year, look at your life’s “annual report.” Ask:

  • What went well this year?

  • Where did I waste resources (energy, time, emotion)?

  • What new opportunities are emerging?

  • What will I focus on next quarter?

This simple reflection turns your growth into an ongoing strategy.

Lead with intention

Being the CEO of your life isn’t about perfection, it’s about participation. It’s about showing up as the decision-maker of your own destiny, leading from faith, and staying accountable to your higher purpose.

So the next time fear or doubt calls a board meeting, just smile and say: “Sorry, this company is under new management.” Then, turn your focus back to your mission, your vision, and your next great acquisition, because your life is ready for expansion.
